Abstract

| This paper provides an overview of the research in the field of consultation and liaison psychiatry, conducted at the Collaborative Antwerp Psychiatric Research Institute (University of Antwerp). In the past decade, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) has been the major research topic. Regarding this, we elaborate on the following projects in the first part of the paper: neuro-endocrine dysfunction, psychological risk factors, psychomotor disturbances and genetic vulnerability. At the end of the first part, we propose an integrative model of CFS. In the second part of the paper, several other recent research topics in the area of consultation and liaison psychiatry are being presented. These include: epidemiological and neurobiological research on panic disorders subtypes, research on the epidemiology and clinical consequences of child abuse in sport, research on psychological risk factors for post partum depression and finally, research on sleep disorders. |
