Title
Eolian deposition of dust over symmetrical hills : an evaluation of wind-tunnel data by means of terrain measurements
Author
Abstract
This paper treats the eolian sedimentation profile that is formed when dust-laden winds blow across a symmetrical hill. Such-like profiles have already been measured during dust storm simulations in eolian dust tunnels, but they have never been verified at full-scale field conditions. This paper describes a field experiment that was set up during a dust storm in the Israelian Negev Desert. The sedimentation profile obtained during this experiment is compared with typical wind tunnel profiles. The agreement appears to be very high, even in the details. The results of the field experiment also confirm the predictions of a general dust deposition model developed earlier by the first author.
