Synthesis of stable sulfines by oxidation of chlorodithioformates

Abstract
The oxidation of chlorodithioformates with in-chloroperoxybenzoic acid in dichloromethane at room temperature provides an efficient stereoselective synthesis of (Z)-sulfines. The expected (Z)-configuration was confirmed by an X-ray structure determination. The sulfines are reactive dienophiles and react with 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene to give the corresponding dihydrothiopyran-S-oxide.
