The internal friction and velocity of ultrasonic waves in the beta phase of Cu-Al-Ni single crystals are measured at a frequency of 5 MHz in the temperature range 190-300 K, including the range of thermoelastic martensite transformation. The effect of impact loading (5 GPa) on the elastic and dissipative characteristics of the samples is investigated. The results obtained are discussed within the framework of existing theoretical concepts on the martensite transformation mechanisms responsible for the acoustic characteristics of a material.
