Title
Equilibrium surface tensions and surface potentials of some fatty acids
Author
Abstract
In this paper, the equilibrium surface tension versus concentration isotherms and equilibrium surface potential versus concentration isotherms of aqueous solutions of the homologous series of fatty acids (C-6, C-8 and C-10) have been evaluated by a new surface equation-of-state approach. All parameters (saturation adsorption, saturation potential, Langmuir-von Szyszkowski distribution coefficient, interaction parameter, dipole moment, skewness parameters) reveal a linear relation with the chain length. The measurement of equilibrium surface potentials has been improved and very stable results were obtained (the surface potential did not change over several hours), within 1 mV or better. The complementary information obtained from these very stable surface potentials gave rise to a new approach. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
