Liquid-vapor critical-point properties of molecular liquids will first be contrasted with properties of fluid alkali metals, in the latter case, some insight into (limited) phase transitions can be gained from the one-component plasma model. This insight can be transferred to understand an empirical relation between critical temperature and critical volume for the alkalis, which is quite different from that characterizing molecular fluids. Attention will then be focused on "unconventional" critical points, with the dominant examples being (i) a "structural phase transformation" in C solely within the Liquid state, between sp(3) hybridization at high density and sp hydridization in the low-density liquid as suggested by Ferraz and March (1979), as is evidenced in the recent atomistic simulations of Glosli and Ree (1999) and (ii) a so-called plasma phase transition in fluid hydrogen.
