Abstract

| We show that one can formulate a grand canonical ensemble with an uncertain number of degrees of freedom without making specific assumptions about the canonical ensemble. Several choices of grand canonical entropy functional are considered. The ideal gas in non-extensive thermostatistics is discussed as an application. |
