An important limiting factor in the detection of microcalcifications is the resolution of the images. Event with improvements in the technology, the endeavor earlier and better detection will not change much to this fact. Ln this paper, we investigated the potential of sub-pixel interpolation of the image data to improve microcalcification detection performances. The extrapolated regions were re-segmented to avoid blocking artifacts in their shape. Candidate regions are classified using feature sets calculated either on the original image data or on an extrapolated counterpart. The differences in classification results indicate the potential of extrapolation techniques in this field. |
