Strategicpositioningandfittheoriesmayinformtheservice-baseddifferentiationstrategiesthat incubatorsusetosecureexternalandinternalalignment.Externalalignmentrelatestotenantservice expectationsandperceptions;internalalignmentinvolvesacompetenceconfigurationforeach strategy alternative.Byimplementingtheproposedframework,anincubatorcanachieveservice differentiationandultimatelyenhancedcustomer(tenant)value.Qualitativeresearchamongnonprofit economicdevelopmentincubatorsrevealstwoservice-baseddifferentiationpositions:specialistsand generalists.Whereasextantresearchadvocatesonlyaspecialiststance,thepresentanalysisconfirms that service-baseddifferentiationcanresultfromageneraliststance.Thisstudyoffersthefirsttypology of service-baseddifferentiationstrategiesforincubatorsthatalignsstrategywithexternalandinternal variables.
