Abstract

| he Viral Hepatitis Prevention Board organised a meeting on the identification and management of persons with chronic viral hepatitis in Europe in Budapest, Hungary (1819 March 2010). The objectives of the meeting were to review screening of chronic diseases, evaluate the applicability of the Wilson and Jungner screening criteria to chronic hepatitis, report on health technology assessments of such programmes, weigh the benefits of screening against costs and potential harm that may ensue and define conditions for screening and its strengths and weaknesses, and public health and social implications, including impact on individuals. |
