The author analyzes the link between cultural policies and spatial strategies on the part of minority cultures in a multicultural context. The example of Flemings and Galicians in Brussels serves to illustrated certain frameworks of interaction and tension between, on the one hand, ethnocentric localist tendencies and, on the other, interculturalist and even globalist tendencies under the synergetic influence exercised by the urban surround. Three stages can be identified in the cultural trajectory of ethnocultural minorities in Brussels, with different strategies of ethnicization and appropriation of urban space: 1 . the ethnocentric phrase (promotion and conservation of one's own culture); 2. the phase of openness and interaction with other communities; and 3. that of cultural hybridization which ends up in cultural métissage.
