Title
The natural relation between biodiversity and public health : an ecosystem services perspective
Author
Abstract
Internationally, the importance of coordinated efforts to protect both biodiversity and public health is increasingly being recognized. We address these ecosystem health services by focusing on some crucial human healthnature relations. We present examples of infectious diseases, food, medicine, nature experience, and invasive species and diseases. We also indicate how in Belgium a Community of Practice on Biodiversity and Public Health is emerging, in order to raise critical mass to deal with the challenges posed by these linkages.
