| This contribution offers a review of Frits van Oostrom's Wereld in woorden [World in Words], part 1.2 of the eight volume Geschiedenis van de Nederlandse letterkunde [History of the Dutch Literature], which treats Dutch literature of the fourteenth century. More than a history of literature in the strictest sense, Wereld in woorden tells the story of the increasingly important role of the vernacular within the textual culture at the dawn of modernity. |
