Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) containing zinc and titanium in the layers with the cationic ratio of 3 were synthesized by the co-precipitation method at constant pH. The mixed metal oxides (ZnTi-MMO) obtained by the calcination of ZnTi-LDH at different temperatures were characterized together with the precursor material by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 sorption at 77 K, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and ultravioletvisible (UVVis) spectroscopy techniques. The photocatalytic activity was studied for the phenol degradation in aqueous solution under UV light irradiation. The results point out that the structural transformations of the layered porous clay to the ZnTi-MMO, as a function of the calcination treatment, have an important impact on the photocatalytic performances of the phenol degradation. These results may open new perspectives in tailoring the semiconductor-based capabilities of ZnTi-LDHs based nanoarchitectonics. |
