XAD resins are widely used to isolate aquatic humic substances. In this work the molecular adsorption and subsequent desorption of a soil humic acid on XAD-2, 4, -7 and -8 was studied. Gel permeation chromatography established that size-exclusion effects were operative; large humic molecules (MW > 30000) were not significantly adsorbed by these XAD resins. These results highlight the operational definition of humic substances isolated via XAD resins. |
