Management of type 2 diabetes has evolved from a glucocentric to a holistic and patient-oriented approach. The focus now is not only on lowering HbA1c concentration without hypoglycaemia and bodyweight gain but also on reducing cardiovascular and renal morbidity and mortality.1 An ideal combination of antidiabetes drugs should have complementary effects that correct the many pathophysiological effects of type 2 diabetes and be safe, durable, well tolerated, easy to administer, and cost-effective. |
