Title
Air quality and road traffic in the urban area of Milan
Author
Abstract
In the area of Milan, encompassing the city and 34 surrounding municipalities, air quality standards for CO and NO2 in urban districts and for O-3 in surroundings are frequently exceeded, mainly as a consequence of traffic emissions joined with high frequencies of calm winds and stable atmospheric conditions. Following a brief outline on traffic related issues included in the air quality control plan enforced by regional authorities, present work reports on the assessment of source control required for standards compliance: the evaluation is performed through empirical statistical models, derived from the large data set available from monitoring stations in the area, properly combined with a roll-back approach.
