Title
A mechanism based reaction-diffusion model for spurt oxidation of bitumen
Author
Abstract
Focusing on the spurt reaction, related primarily to the formation of sulfoxides, we derive a reaction-diffusion model within the frame of thermodynamics of irreversible processes (TIP). It can account for bitumen composition and, it has been derived with the objective of minimizing the number of purely phenomenological parameters by considering underlying mechanisms at molecular level. Key aspects of the model are discussed by means offilm ageing simulations.
