Formful Wood. Explorative Furniture
Author
Abstract
Design and construct plywood seating furniture! An experimental study project based on the famous L-leg by the architect Alvar Aalto for the Finnish furniture manufacturer Artek asked about the potential and design possibilities of glued and bent wood. In close cooperation with Artek, 28 students of architecture at ETH Zurich and object design at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts not only turned the material upside down, but also questioned the sensual qualities of the object, its construction as an architectural site and sitting as a social event. The volume Formful wood. Explorative Furniture presents the surprisingly unknown faces of a well-known material, sheds light on the respective process of creation and reflects the context in various essays. With contributions by Nicolai de Gier, Florian Hauswirth, Sebastian Kraft, Mario Rinke, Christoph Schindler and Alessandro Oreste Tellini.
