As long as wood has been used as a construction material in building, practical manufacturing has always played a role in the construction process. The construction process included not only the necessary joining of the individual parts but also the forming of the parts themselves. The separation of processing, i.e. the joining and assembly of the components, has a long history in timber construction and thus produced differentiated forms of craft practices that sometimes differ greatly from one place to another. In the process, the focus of processing by the woodworking industry has also changed, away from the individual complex part to modules that are joined together precisely and cheaply. The brief historical overview given here shows that numerous, different influences have led to the present form of prefabrication in timber construction, especially industrialisation on several levels for about 200 years, until digitalisation was able to start here. |
