Through the interaction between three independent but symbiotic organizations BC Architects, BC Studies and BC Materials lastingly alter the understanding of architecture. What began in Burundi with a clay brick building and workshops for constructing has developed into a holistic architecture and an approach that is manifested in the most recent project, the Atelier Luma in Arles (together with Assemble from London). The building is a prototype and research project in one, where new materials are developed and used for building. In contrast the headquarters of BC Materials is a simple hangar in the canal zone of Brussels and is the meeting place of a new organization where knowledge and expertise about circular, local and organic construction are shared. It offers a framework for conducting experiments on architects’ future role in the building process. |
