Abstract

|
| This article contains a summary and philosophical evaluation of Die Macht des Heiligen, a recent book by Hans Joas, a German sociologist. In this book Joas attacks the well-known Weberian notion of the disenchantment of the world and tries to present a better alternative to understand modern Western society. He therefore uses the concept of self-sacralization. My thesis in this article is however that the notion of disenchantment still has value in our understanding of the modern world. |
