Abstract

This book presents an independent, scintillating and critical view of Uganda in a neoliberal age, focusing largely on President Yoweri Museveni’s post-1986 rule, but also referring to the colonial and post-colonial periods. It is chronologically sequenced, providing a prologue for Uganda’s transformative journey. The nineteen chapters convey insights from various aspects of political economy, with a good blend of local and international authors. One unique feature of the book is that it provides an independent view to counter the official narrative advanced by international actors like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, regime apologists and pro-Museveni leaning economic commentators in Kampala. It also represents a fair mix of Ugandan-based and foreign academics. |
