This essay was invited to reflect on the contemporary resonance of Disney's cultural production. It examines how Disney's utopian ideas and ideologies produce a particular narrative, and how the emancipation of the female protagonist plays out into architectural sceneries. The stories we tell and share influence how we see ourselves, our community and our environment. Yet, how do these stories exactly talk back to us? How desirable are staged narratives and white-washed versions of reality? In our era of individualism, fact-free politics, and the blurring of boundaries to sway citizens, an understanding of the cultural codes and an awareness of these developments is paramount. |
