Abstract

The relaxation after optical excitation of F-H(OH-) centers in alkali halides is studied with a technique for time-resolved induced transparency measurements. A fast electronic relaxation, within a few picoseconds, is observed. A slower, strongly temperature-dependent component is identified as the restoration of thermal equilibrium between the configurations of the F-H center A third component is attributed to the vibrational relaxation of the OH- stretch vibration, which is excited by E-V energy transfer during the electronic relaxation. |
