This chapter looks at the mandate of the European Labour Authority (ELA) to present the role that it can play in supporting fair and effective enforcement of the EU labour mobility acquis and social security coordination within the Union. The contribution is structured as follows. First, the policy context of the EU labour mobility which laid grounds for the European Commission’s proposal to establish the ELA in the first place is explained. Then, the chapter explores the ELA’s mandate by walking the reader through ELA’s four key objectives that translate into its seven operational tasks. Thirdly, it describes the ELA’s governance structure. Lastly, this chapter concludes with an assessment on ELA’s potential as an enforcer of mobile workers rights and obligations in the EU internal market. |
