The purpose of this chapter is to delve into the garment production process and bring out sustainable approaches for the sector. Channelizing waste in the garment industry is an early step in the value chain towards achieving sustainability. The strategy of 5R (reduce, reuse, recycle, re-design, re-image) will form the basis of this research. Based on empirical evidence, the chapter will discuss the concept of each strategy in accordance with the new circular business model in garment manufacturing. Academic literature focusing on clean and green manufacturing will also be analyzed to develop waste management strategies. This research will explore strategies employed in waste management and energy efficiency in garment companies and suggest new ways of implementation. The results of the study will serve as an inspiration for small and medium-scale industries in developing economies. Product development from waste in garment manufacturing will also be a major take away of this research. |
