This research explores community education, focusing on supplementary schools in Flanders that cater to minoritized communities. The study unfolds in four steps: a comprehensive literature review to understand the existing landscape, interviews with school organizers to unveil their motivations and goals, and two studies examining the student experience in different educational settings. The research delves into the student-teacher relationship and the sense of belonging in both mainstream and supplementary schools. By shedding light on the educational needs of minoritized communities, the findings contribute to a deeper understanding of community education, providing insights for policymakers to recognize and support the agency within these communities. |
