This chapter seeks to build on Professor Siegfried Wiessner’s pioneering work about Earth-space interaction from a legal perspective. It explores his far-sighted vision of the distinct place of space and its use in pursuit of his paramount intellectual goal of an ever-larger universe of core human values. These values, however, remain elusive in unfortunate real-world events involving mass atrocities. Against this specific context and drawing on Wiessner’s insights and premises, the chapter seeks to uncover the many roles and challenges of space-based technology to arrest mass murder crimes, as conceived under international law. |
