Title
Novel insights in the clinical evaluation and management of childhood obesity
Author
Abstract
This thesis discusses several clinical research questions along the clinical trajectory a child with obesity undergoes, i.e. from clinical evaluation, to management and cardiometabolic outcome. Regarding evaluation, we assessed the role of the new devices based on bioimpedance spectroscopy in the evaluation of children with obesity. Regarding management, we studied whether the addition of an online self-control training alters the outcome of currently existing pediatric obesity treatment programs and whether metabolic comorbidities predict treatment outcome, Lastly, we have studied how BMI fluctuations and a BMI reincrease after initial BMI loss influences the cardiometabolic health and endothelial function in children with obesity. We ended with a discussion on which outcome measures should we used to evaluate obesity in children, what the role is of e-health in pediatric obesity and if we should change our point of view on a patient’s BMI trajectory.
