Purpose: This paper aims to understand the roles of gender, age, and professional experience on intuitive misses in decisions made by managers across different hierarchical levels in Mexican organizations. Design/methodology/approach: using a logical-deductive method that starts from documentary research of the current state of the art, to the application of a questionnaire using a retrospective approach, on a sample of 1,005 professionals at top management or managerial positions. Findings: Results support the role of gender for use and outcomes of intuition in decision-making but show less conclusive results for age and experience in explaining intuitive misses. Originality: This research build on the literature regarding intuitive decision making and intuitive misses, including variables such as gender, age and experience to measure their impact. Research limitations/implications: data collection was made using a questionnaire based on retrospective report with a proportion between male and female managers similar to the current Mexican business context. |
