Tourism, one of the largest global industries, impacts host countries economically, socially, politically, and environmentally. Overtourism, defined as the excessive negative impact of tourism, poses a growing challenge. The UN, through the UNWTO, adopted the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (SF-MST) in 2024 to assess tourism's impacts comprehensively. This framework enables data-driven decision-making to manage and mitigate overtourism. By measuring sustainability across various levels, SF-MST supports sustainable tourism development, helping destinations preserve their cultural and natural assets for future generations. |
