Dual channel heterodyne interferometer

Abstract
A standard heterodyne interferometer is capable of performing single-point vibration measurements. We have developed an instrument with a dual beam facility, allowing simultaneous vibration measurements at two different points of interest, that can be chosen at will. This instrument allows us to perform direct transfer function measurements of vibrating systems, or to study the phase relation between two different points of a vibrating structure. The dual beam heterodyne interferometer has been tested using a circular piezo-electric plate which shows a rich resonance structure in the region of 1-40 kHz.
