The article presents a study about the long-term preservation of digital objects using an improved Universal Virtual Computer (UVC) approach. The UVC-based preservation method, which will become a part if IBM's Digital Information Archiving System (DIAS), allows the preservation of the original bit stream of digital information objects in a way that can be interpreted by future computers. The expansion of the UVC with a high-level programming environment, its benefits and drawbacks, and the development of a high-level programming environment are discussed. |
