Abstract
We present a generic model for the description of non-equilibrium BoseEinstein condensates, suited for the modelling of non-resonantly pumped polariton condensates in a semiconductor microcavity. The excitation spectrum and scattering of the non-equilibrium condensate with a defect are discussed.
