Author
Abstract
Records are given of 22 Lactarius species (Basidiomycota, Russulales) from Sudanian Isoberlinia woodlands of Benin. Except for Lactarius gymnocarpoides Verbeken, all species represent the first records for this country. Lactarius acrissimus Verbeken & Van Rooij, L. afroscrobiculatus Verbeken & Van Rooij, L. foetens Verbeken & Van Rooij, L. miniatescens Verbeken & Van Rooij and L. rufomarginatus Verbeken & Van Rooij are proposed as new species. Edibility and vernacular names of some species are given, as well as an identification key to all recorded species. The distribution of Lactarius in the Sudanian, the Zambesian and the Guineo-Congolian/Sudanian transition zone is discussed; similarities between the ectomycorrhizal mycoflora of the Sudanian and Zambesian region are confirmed.
