Title
European court of justice rejects statutory prohibition on joint offers
Author
Abstract
The article focuses on various developments related to the European Union (EU) Internet law. The European Court of Justice (ECJ), on April 23, 2009, ruled that a prohibition on joint offers under the Belgian Act concerning unfair commercial practices infringed the EU Unfair Practices Directive. In February 2009, several social networking services (SNS) providers, including Facebook Inc., MySpace Inc. and Google Inc., adopted the Safer Social Networking Principles for the EU. The EU's advisory body on data protection, Working Party 29, has issued guidelines on how the EU data protection rules can be reconciled with the conflicting principles of U.S. pre-trial discovery procedure.
