| Innovation in newsrooms is often not a straightforward process; indeed, it frequently faces many hindrances. This chapter offers a comprehensive catalog of the factors involved in the evolution of the organization of labor and practices in the newsroom, from technological infrastructure to professional profiles, training, journalistic culture and the representation of users. The authors provide a review of the findings of recent research on convergence and online journalism and contribute their own ethnographic analysis of two cases of Belgian newsrooms that experimented with collaborative practices: cross-media news production and hyperlocal citizen journalism. |
