Abstract

In this article, we explore the possibilities of a genetic approach to narratology and a narratological approach to manuscripts. To investigate this combination of manuscript research and narrative analysis we first examine the ways in which genetic criticism has been taken into account in narratology, and vice versa. We subsequently apply the combination of narrative analysis and genetic criticism to three case studies the writings of Robert Musil, Samuel Beckett and Ivo Michiels to show how both disciplines can be mutually enriching. |
