Abstract

| The Hudson volcano eruptions in August 1991 flung out appreciable amounts of ashes, particulate material and gases. Its volcanic ashes affected the Argentinean Patagonia, especially the Santa Cruz province. X-ray techniques have been employed in order to determine the composition, crystalline silica structure and particle size distribution of the fallen ashes. Quantitative X-ray fluorescence results are compared with data from the Lonquimay volcano (Chile, 1988) and Mt St Helens (USA, 1980) eruptions. |
