Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) have many different applications but in order to exploit the full potential of these applications, a specialized routing protocol is needed. In previous work, we proposed a routing protocol for emergency messages on highways (REACT [3]). In this paper, we propose an adaptation to the REACT protocol that functions in a Manhattan scenario and which can be used for emergency messaging. We present three possible forwarding mechanisms and show that using information from neighboring vehicles it is possible to deliver messages timely. |
