Abstract

Properties of a quartic potential energy confining electrons are first considered in the Thomas-Fermi approximation, the chemical potentials being calculated as a function of electron number in both non-relativistic and relativistic theories. An electric field is then switched on and approximations to the Slater sum are given. Finally, the Schrodinger equation at zero energy is solved exactly and its relevance to the classical theory of turbulence is stressed. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. |
