Two varieties, of ''strunzite'' are investigated namely ferrostrunzite and mangano-ferristrunzite from Waidhaus, Oberpfalz, Germany. The chemical relationships between the different varieties of ''strunzite'' are briefly discussed. Chemical composition, thermal behavior, X-ray data and IR spectra are presented. Transmission Fe-57 Mossbauer spectra for the mangano-ferristrunzite at 4.2 K (magnetically ordered state) and at room temperature (paramagnetic state) are presented. From the latter one, it is concluded that no detectable Fe2+ is present. The spectra were excellently fitted with three distinct, Lorentzian-shaped components in accordance with the compositional and structural features of the mineral. The Mn/Fe ratio is confirmed by the evaluated relative areas of the subspectra. The various hyperfine parameters are given and briefly discussed. |
